Robert Comstock, aged 71, passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 26, 2024. Born on January 31, 1953, Robert led a life marked by dedication to family, service, and his community.
Robert will be remembered as a devoted and beloved teacher at Oquirrh Hills Middle School, where he taught wood shop for 13 years. Robert was a skilled woodworker and master carpenter who took great joy in passing down his knowledge of woodworking to the next generations, inspiring many students with his kindness and expertise.
Robert’s strong faith guided him throughout his life. Robert was a parishioner at St Ann’s Catholic Church and was an active member of the Utah Interfaith Association, fostering unity and understanding among Salt Lake’s diverse religious communities.
Robert believed strongly in democracy and democratic values. His passion for justice and equality was reflected in his staunch support of the Democratic Party. He served as a delegate numerous times and tirelessly volunteered to register people to vote, striving to make a difference in his community through civic engagement. His dedication to public service is further exemplified by his candidacies for Utah Senate and State Party Chair, where he tirelessly worked to represent and uplift his community. Robert Comstock's legacy is one of selfless service and profound impact, inspiring all who have had the privilege of working with him.
Robert had an effortless knack for connecting with others, turning strangers into lifelong friends wherever he went. His boundless curiosity and deep compassion for people meant he never missed an opportunity to form a new friendship, whether dining out, attending a concert, or even just running an errand for a few forgotten groceries.
Known for his beautiful singing voice, Robert was an esteemed member of the Oratorio Society and the Jubilate Choir. He dedicated his free time to volunteering at local hospitals, bringing comfort and joy to patients through his music.
Robert’s academic achievements included a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work and a Master’s degree in Teaching, reflecting his lifelong commitment to helping others and sharing knowledge.
He is survived by his loving wife Maureen, sister Vicki, brother Jeff; daughter Sarah, son David; stepchildren Andrew, Shannon, George, and Alice; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Robert's presence in their lives was a source of strength and joy, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Funeral services will be held on September 7 at 12:00 PM at St. Ann's Catholic Church, 50 E 2100 S, Salt Lake City, UT 84115, and will be followed by a celebration of Robert's life.
