Ronald Burns Hales, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, passed away peacefully in his home in West Jordan, Utah, on December 31, 2020, at 83 years of age.
Ron was born on December 5, 1937, in Ogden, Utah, to Melvin and Nondas Hales.
Ron grew up in Los Angeles, California, and graduated from Bell High School. Ron was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and served a full-time mission in Buenos Aires, Argentina. After graduating from Brigham Young University, Ron served in the United States Army Intelligence, stationed in Central America.
Ron met his sweetheart, Marion Gommo, at a dance in Santa Monica, California. They were married in the Los Angeles temple on January 7, 1967. Together they had five children, Ron, Marlee, Peter, Christy and Leilani.
Ron began his career as a business and bank manager. After witnessing the successful healing of his wife through chiropractic treatment, Ron decided to change his career, and attended Sherman College of Chiropractic in Spartanburg, South Carolina. After earning his Doctorate in Chiropractic, Ron opened his practice in Kaneohe, Hawaii, and later expanded to a second office in Laie, Hawaii.
Ron's passions were family history, reading, traveling with his family, and helping others. He loved to continually broaden his knowledge, and he cherished sharing that knowledge with others. Ron loved and faithfully served all of his church callings, and especially dear to his heart were those where he was able to teach and discuss the gospel.
Ron was also very generous with his time and talents in serving his community in many capacities, including serving on the Boy Scouts of America Aloha Council, the Kahalu'u neighborhood board, Bobby Sox, AYSO, and Lions Club.
Ron was best known for the kindness he showed to all, for his optimistic attitude which was reflected in his infectious smile, and for the humble, generous acts that he frequently performed for others.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Nondas, brother, Bud, and daughter, Leilani.
Ron is survived by his wife, Marion, four children, Ron, Marlee, Peter (Misty), and Christy (Bryce), and eleven grandchildren, Elijah, Dominic, Cassidy, Anthony, Alicia, Alexander, Benjamin, Brittany, Malia, Natalie, and Nichole, and sister, Carole.
The family would like to thank the hospice nurses, caregivers and staff for the wonderful service that they provided during this difficult time, and to all those who expressed kind words and acts.
