Scott Dee Cahill was born to Jeremiah and Lela Cahill on April 12, 1956 in San Francisco, California. Departing this earthly life to parades and fireworks, he passed away among loved ones (and Marty Robbins) on July 4th, 2025.
Dad spent his early years in South Salt Lake and working on his uncle’s ranch in Wayne County during the summertime. As a boy he rode horses, hunted, and ran cross country. He attended Granite High School from 1970-1974. Soon after his high school graduation, he faithfully served an LDS mission in Stockholm, Sweden. Upon his return, he attended Brigham Young University where he earned a Bachelor’s in Business and Animal Science. In 1985, he was sealed in the Salt Lake Temple to Jill Ann Rowberry. Scott spent his life as a stone mason and entrepreneur, creating his own business and crafting beautiful works all over the Intermountain West.
Dad was a gentle soul, cowboy, athlete, and devout follower of Jesus Christ; having run numerous relays, half marathons, and marathons. He was happiest on a horse, in the outdoors, running up the canyon, holding a baby, and in the company of loved ones; particularly, his four beloved grandchildren. His little buddies will sorely miss their Papa and his treasure hunts and dump truck tricks. His daughters will miss his steady quiet manner and the way he lit up while pushing a wheelbarrow.
He was preceded in death by his father Jeremiah Cahill; his sister, Jennifer (Russ) Urry; and his former wife, Jill Cahill. He is survived by his mother, Lela Cahill; his siblings, Sharon (Willie) Wouden, Susan (Mark) Moses, Rafael (William) Padilla, and Patrick (Angie) Cahill; his children, Calli (Matheus Cruz) Cahill and Kinley (Jake) Garfield; and his grandchildren, Conrad, Luke, Greta, and Liam Garfield.
A long career in stone masonry damaged Scott’s lungs, and Scott was the grateful recipient of a double lung transplant in 2021 that extended his life by four precious years. We are so grateful to the Lung Transplant Team and Dr. Kathleen Irby at the University of Utah Medical Center for the excellent care that enabled him to watch his grandchildren grow up for the last four years. Through all the pain and suffering he endured as a result of his lung disease and subsequent transplant, he maintained it was all worth it.
All are invited to join in a celebration of Scott’s life on Saturday, July 12, at 11:00 a.m. at the Eastdell Ward Chapel (9855 S 2800 E, Sandy, UT). Friends may gather for a viewing on Friday evening, July 11, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park and Mortuary (3401 S. Highland Drive, Millcreek, UT). An additional viewing will be held on July 12 from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the same location as the funeral. Interment will follow at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park and Mortuary.
