Selma Setsuko Yagi

Apr 29, 1934 Nov 3, 2025

Selma Setsuko Yagi, 91, beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, passed away in Salt Lake City on November 3, 2025. She was born on April 29, 1934, in Union, Utah, to Shigenobu and Kusa Mori. Selma had an extraordinary gift of warmth, kindness, love and thoughtfulness towards everyone.

Growing up, Selma attended Jordan High School where she enjoyed cheerleading for the Beetdiggers. She is predeceased by her devoted husband, Junior; they lived in Corinne, Utah for 46 years before both moving to Sandy in 2000. During her years in Corinne, they attended most every University of Utah football and basketball game. She worked at Box Elder County Bank and Udy Insurance Co., while gracefully juggling the demands of raising her five children.

After Junior’s passing in 2007, Selma found solace and strength in her family, friends, kind members of the Willowcreek 2nd Ward and her passions which included her continued devotion and love for Utah athletics. She made it to her final Utah football game just nine days prior to her passing! Her other past times included the Japanese bowling league and the lunches that followed, the Mt. Majestic ladies luncheon group, her grandchildren, great grandchildren and sharing her delicious cooking with everyone.

Thoughtful actions and giving to others brought Selma the most joy. She was happiest when she could do things for others. Even in her later years with various health issues, she still found ways to bring joy into everyone’s lives. While we are heartbroken, we are grateful for the time we had with her and for the love and memories she leaves behind.

Selma is survived by her loving children, Randy (Stacey), Rick, Stephen, Susan Booth (Scott) and Kari Jo Reagan (Dewey); her siblings Floyd and Steve Mori; 10 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was proceeded in death by her parents, sisters Meg Kiriyama and Yuki Tawa, brothers Shigeru, Nobuo and Tom Mori.

A viewing will be held at the Larkin Sunset Lawn Funeral Home, 2350 E 1300 S, Salt Lake City on Sunday, November 9 from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. A second viewing will be held Monday, November 10 from 10:30 a.m. - 11:45 a.m., followed by funeral services at 12:00 noon at Willowcreek 2nd Ward located at 2400 E Alta Canyon Road, Sandy.
