Sharon Hinckley

Aug 26, 1940 Jun 4, 2024

In the cool, early morning of June 4th, 2024 we said bon voyage to our dear Mom, Sharon Betteridge Bowcutt Hinckley. She was born August 26th, 1940 on her big sister, Thelma’s, birthday to O.J. “Shorty “ Betteridge and Alice Evelyn Tanner Betteridge. She was the baby of the family which consisted of 3 sisters and 1 brother. She had a fun childhood growing up in Ogden during the 1950’s attending rodeos, train rides, and getting into mischief with her friends and siblings. She graduated from Ben Lomond High School.

Sharon was a loyal friend to many and was still close with Sherri Wintle whom she met in elementary school. Sharon and the “tennis girls” met often and she stayed active until last September when her body started declining. Her special companion, James MacQuire, has been a beloved member of our tribe for over 40 years. Together they enjoyed many fun adventures along with ball games, dining out, and card club get-togethers with their Summer Place friends. Our Mom loved to travel and was able to see many amazing countries and cities in her lifetime. She also enjoyed gardening, T.V. game shows, crossword puzzles, sudoku, and hosting parties… especially for her family on special occasions. She was a fabulous cook.

Finding herself as a single mother in her late 30s she started her career at Hill Air Force Base. About that same time she was able to join the Navy Reserves and later retired as an Airforce Reservist earning the rank of Senior Master Sergeant. After retiring from HAFB she spent her free time working out and doing Zumba at the HAFB gym, babysitting her grand and great-grandchildren, and traveling with her sister Marsha; they did every tour Brian Judd Tours had to offer.

Girl Power!

Sharon was a self made Woman, a hard worker, a person of service, an anchor for her family, and really enjoyed having a good time. Mom’s last act of service was to donate her body to the University of Utah body donor program with the hopes that it would somehow better the life of others.

She was preceded in death by her brother Dale Betteridge, and sisters Thelma Blair and Mary Ellen Apostol. She is survived by her children: Tori Kearns, Blayne (Lanette) Bowcutt, Patrice (Paul) Wood. Grandkids Patrick (Camille) Kearns, Nick and Hayden Bowcutt, Nathan and Shaelynn Wood, and 2 great grandchildren Lucy and Lyla Kearns. She is also survived by her dear sister Marsha Willis, many nieces and nephews, and “the girls” Jamey MacKenzie and Kristy Carter.

A very special thank you to Applegate Home Health and Hospice Staff especially Nurse Jan and CNA Yesse, CNA Eryk from Amada Senior Care, and Jean from Suzy’s Senior Companions for providing compassionate care and companionship to Sharon.

Please join us for a Celebration of Life July 10th at 11 a.m. at Lindquist Mortuary, 1867 N Fairfield Rd, Layton, UT 84041. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to a charity of your choice.
