Sheri Anderson Benoist
March 3, 1974-August 16th, 2022
Sheri was born at Utah Valley Hospital in Provo, Utah on March 3, 1974. She was the youngest of 7 children born to Rita Ann and Leland Roy Anderson. Soon after she was born, her family moved to American Fork, Utah.
Sheri was known for her friendly contagious personality. She could make a new friend with a complete stranger. She was well loved by all her friends and was considered one of the “popular” girls. She thrived at American Fork High School by participating in gymnastics, cheerleading, and dance. After high school, she went to Snow College where she also participated in cheerleading and dance.
When Sheri was 22 years old, she married Brent Gordon. They worked hard together to put themselves through school. Sheri graduated top of her class while earning a Master’s in Accounting. She began her career with a prestigious Big Four Firm in its tax department.
Sheri and Brent had three beautiful children—Max, Sam, and Ben. Sheri’s pride and joy were her children. She loved photography and she took hundreds of pictures of her children. Because of challenges after her third child was born, Sheri was separated from Brent and her children. She had a great group of friends from high school that continued to support her through her challenges. One of Sheri’s friends mentioned, “Sheri loved to tell us about her children. She was so proud of them and their accomplishments. She would always update us on how they were doing in their life.” Sheri’s love for dance and being active was a great source of strength through her trying times.
Sheri married Jacob Benoist on October 15, 2016. Jacob was a great source of joy to Sheri. They loved spending time together. On July 22, 2022, Sheri had a pulmonary embolism that caused her to go into cardiac arrest. She was on life support for 3 weeks and then put on comfort care. She passed peacefully away on August 16, 2022, at the age of 48.
One of Sheri’s favorite songs was from the musical Wicked. It is called, “For Good”. The lyrics to this song are a great summary of Sheri’s life;
"I’m limited, Just look at me, I’m limited
And just look at you, you can do all I couldn’t do
I’ve heard it said that people come into our life for a reason
bringing something we must learn
And we are led to those who help us most to grow, if we let them
And we help them in return
Well, I don’t know if I believe that’s true, but I know I’m who I am today Because I knew you
It well may be, that we will never meet again in this lifetime
So let me say before we part, so much of me is made of what I learned from you
You’ll be with me like a handprint on my heart
And now whatever way our stories end
I know you have rewritten mine by being my friend
And just to clear the air, I ask forgiveness
For the things I’ve done, you blame me for
But then, I guess we know there is blame to share And none of it seems to matter anymore
Who can say if I’ve been changed for the better
I do believe I have been changed for the better
Because I knew you,
I have been changed for good"
Sheri loved her husband Jacob, children, parents, siblings, and friends. They all changed her life “For Good.” Because of Sheri’s love for others, we who knew her, have all also been changed, “For Good”.
Sheri is proceeded in death by her parents, Leland Roy and Rita Ann Anderson.
