Stephen Craig Johnson

Sep 1, 1951 May 19, 2026

Stephen Craig Johnson, beloved husband, father, grandfather, leader, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 19, 2026, at the age of 74.

Stephen spent the first 12 years of his life in Sunnyside before moving to Price, where he grew up alongside his siblings Debbie, Joy, Jeff, and Jan, who knew him as Rocky. He married the love of his life, Beth Myers, and they made their home in West Jordan before later moving to Murray, where he built a life centered on faith, family, friendship, and service.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Beth, and his children Jared (Nancy), Kylee (David), Luke (Mackenzie), and Cheri (Russ) and 15 precious and practically perfect grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Matthew (Jennie), who passed away in 2021; his grandson Reggie, his father, Edgar Lamar Johnson; his mother, Regina Craig Johnson; and his sister, Jan.

Stephen dedicated more than 45 years to the Salt Lake City media community, where he became widely respected for his leadership, integrity, and vision. He served as President of Simmons Media and later as CEO of Broadway Media, helping shape Utah broadcasting while mentoring countless colleagues and friends throughout his distinguished career.

A faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Stephen devoted his life to serving others. His many callings included Bishop of the West Jordan 33rd Ward, counselor in the Murray South Stake Presidency, Mission President of the Washington DC North Mission, and Stake President of the Murray Young Single Adult Stake. Those who served alongside him remember his compassion, wisdom, steady leadership, and unwavering testimony of Jesus Christ. He made serving fun.

Steve loved baseball and if he wasn’t at work or church he was on the field coaching one of his kids in a white button up shirt, suit pants and loafers. He had a deep appreciation for the arts and film. He was a great artist and had the perfect movie quote ready for any situation. He gave countless hours serving his local community donating his time, talent and resources to help the underserved.

He will be remembered for his kindness, his sense of humor, his thoughtful leadership, and his genuine love for people. Whether in his professional life, church service, or personal relationships, he had a unique ability to make others feel valued and heard. He was larger than life, made everything joyous, and left everyone better after they were with him.

His influence will continue through the many lives he touched as a husband, father, mentor, church leader, and friend. He leaves behind a legacy of faith, service, and love that will endure for generations.
