Thomas "Tom" Harold Dewyea

Jan 14, 1942 Jan 16, 2025

Thomas Harold Dewyea passed away January 16, 2025 at the age of 83. Tom was born in Pittsfield, Massachusetts on January 14, 1942 to Harold and Edith Lynn Dewyea. He grew up in Greenfield, Massachusetts and Manchester, New Hampshire. After graduating from high school he enlisted in the Navy for ten years. During that time he received a lot of training, studied physics for two years at the University of Utah, provided submarine service, and was an instructor at a nuclear prototype.

Tom travelled from the east coast to Utah where he met his lifelong sweetheart, Linda McCafferty. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple and have been married for 59 years. Military service took Tom and Linda to Hawaii, Connecticut, and then back to Utah.

Tom loved to tinker with cars, boats, computers, and electrical things so becoming an electrician was natural. While working at Hunter Plant, he and Linda bought a farm and a house where his inner cowboy emerged. They moved back to Sandy where they stayed to raise their family of six wonderful children.

Tom loved his family and he loved taking trips with them. He especially loved taking them out in nature, where they would hike. He was baptised a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1965 and has served the Lord whenever asked. His favorite callings were Young Men’s President, Scoutmaster, High Priest Group Leader, and Executive Secretary. He and his wife Linda served two missions, one in the Park Ridge Branch and one as MLS Stake Missionaries.

Tom is survived by Linda McCafferty Dewyea, their six children; Mark Dewyea, Jennifer Stout (Paul), Alex Lott (Syd), Nathan Dewyea (Rachel), Natalie Williams (Nic), and Michelle Dewyea, their fifteen grandchildren, and his sister Marcia Dewyea.

Tom is preceded in death by his parents Harold Walter Dewyea and Edith Lynn North, and his brother John Dewyea.

A viewing will be held on Monday, January 20, 2025 from 6:00-8:00 PM at The High Point Ward Meetinghouse (1223 E. 7800 S., Midvale, UT 84047) and Tuesday, January 21, 2025 from 10:00-10:45 AM at the same location.
