Todd Mark Balling

Jun 2, 1969 May 31, 2024

Todd Mark Balling, beloved son of Karla Ann Balling and Chris Mark Balling (Carole) returned to his Heavenly Father the afternoon of May 31, 2024, with his brother Taylor and sister Emily holding his hand, following 4 years of treatment for colon cancer. Todd was born June 2, 1969, at LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City. He is survived by his parents, brother and sister, brother-in-law Brad Salisbury, his uncle Mark Scott (Farrel) and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Todd is preceded in death by his brother Thomas Balling, sister Laura Balling, grandparents, Anna Goodrich, Mark and Marjorie Balling, and aunt Myra Platt and cousin Spencer Platt.

Todd's family moved many times because of his father's military career. When he was 4, he moved from Salt Lake City to Hawaii with his mom and sister. He thrived in Hawaii and had many friends; most of his primary schooling was in Hawaii. At age 9 he and his family were in the air again flying back to Utah on the way to Newport Rhode Island, with 2 new brothers, and a stop at Disneyland just for fun. The family then made their journey to Newport. This was somewhat of a home-coming because we had lived in Newport when Todd was a baby. He attended middle school in Newport and had several good friends. He raised rabbits to show at the local fair. His family moved once again, this time back to Salt Lake where Todd was very active in the Scouting program, earning his Eagle Scout and graduating from East High School and Seminary.

Following high school graduation Todd served in the Louisiana Baton Rouge Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He loved the people he served. Upon returning home from his mission he joined the Navy. He served on the USS Constitution followed by the USS Kitty Hawk. He had a brief shore duty in Okinawa, Japan and his last assignment was in Kingsville, Texas. He was at sea for most of his naval service.

After leaving the Navy he returned to Salt Lake where he continued his education graduating with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Internet Security. He had several jobs and all of those he worked with loved him because of his kindness and work ethic. His final job was with Capstone Title and Escrow where he loved working and was loved by all. Todd had a sweet, calming spirit about him and was a peacemaker. People loved to be around him. He always had a joke to tell or something that made others laugh. He was quiet and spoke very little but his big smile, firm handshake, and a hug conveyed his love.

He will be missed by his family (especially his Mom), friends and colleagues. We love you buddy.
