Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Valerie Remington, returned to her heavenly home on Saturday, June 3, 2023. She was born in 1955 to John and Betty Oviatt and married Philip Remington in 1978, later solemnized in the Jordan River Temple.
Valerie loved her family more than anything in the entire world and devoted her life to their care and attention. She often wished to live in a mansion large enough to house every member of her family so we could all be together. Ever generous with her time, she always lent a listening ear to her children and grandchildren, many of whom considered her to be their best friend. She created a warm and welcoming home where the door was always open and no one was allowed to leave hungry. She learned to become an excellent cook from her beloved mother, whom she held in high esteem. Famous for her homemade donuts on Halloween, she worked tirelessly from dawn to dusk to make sure her many visitors would have plenty to enjoy and to share. She loved to decorate for the holidays and her home was known as “ChristmasTown” by her many grandchildren. She especially enjoyed sewing, crafting, and painting. For many years, she and her sweet husband would spend hours making Christmas gifts for an ever increasing list of friends and neighbors.
A lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, she faithfully served in many callings including her favorite as ward librarian with her cherished friend, Lorraine Mace. Valerie also loved the call which she and Phil received to work with the prisoners in the Promontory FamilySearch Center at the Utah Correctional Facility in Draper. She was an avid genealogist and compared her work to a treasure hunt as she searched for information and stories of loved ones long forgotten. Known for her big heart and sense of humor, she easily made friends of strangers and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Survived by her husband, Philip Remington; children, Brittany Andersen, Megan (Matthew) Davies, and MaKenna (Garey) Foster; 13 grandchildren; sisters, Marcia (Warren), Sandy (Ken), Judy (Patrick), and Tracy; brothers Jim and David (Michelle); as well as dear friends Lynn Riches, Janice (Myron) Dennison, and René Reid. Preceded in death by her parents and her brother, John.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 14, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. in the Mt. Jordan 7th Ward, 235 East 9800 South, Sandy, UT. Friends are kindly invited to gather Wednesday at the ward 9:00-9:45 a.m.
