Walter (Wally) Zoellner, passed away peacefully October 16, 2026, at the age of 74 surrounded by his loving family at St. Marks Hospital.
Wally was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on January 21, 1952, to Erich Walter Zoellner and Elfriede Marach and lived in the Salt Lake Valley his entire life.
He joined the Army reserves in 1970 where he trained as an OR tech and was honorably discharged as a staff sergeant. He also served in the Navy for two years on a hospital ship as an OR tech and served one year in the Utah National Guard in the intelligence division as a German interpreter/interrogator officer. Wally retired after 15 years of military service.
Wally served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in The Great Australia mission from 1972-1974. He attended the University of Utah until his senior year where he transferred to BYU. He only spent three weeks at BYU however, because he met his soulmate, the love of his life, and his future eternal companion, Jolene Scherzinger and immediately moved from Utah County back to Salt Lake to court her. They were sealed for time and all eternity on November 11, 1977, in the Salt Lake Temple. He obtained a Master of Business Administration and ventured into growing a real estate business, teaching business classes at Salt Lake Community College, and finished a successful financial career with Zions Bank as the Vice President of Special Collections.
Wally hated monkeys but he loved dogs for the companionship, comfort, and unconditional love they showed him. He was very athletic and loved all different kinds of sports, but golf was life! He loved golf more than anything and one of his greatest moments was when he got a hole in one during a tournament, and also golfing with Wayne Gretzky. He was able to fulfill one of his life dreams when they moved to North Salt Lake to live on a golf course. He also enjoyed traveling, scuba diving, tennis, basketball, ping pong, classic cars and watching movies with family.
Wally is survived in death by his wife Jolene Zoellner; their four children, Jennifer (Nate) Wilkins, Heather (Brien) Heideman, Matthew (Maricar) Zoellner, and Michael (Lindsay) Zoellner, and his grandchildren Carter, Brinley, Kimber, Baron, and Nora. He is also survived by his half-siblings Richard, Arlene and Barbara Zoellner, as well as his nephew Paul (Gween) Frenzel and other nieces, nephews and cousins. He was proceeded in death by his parents, his younger brother David Zoellner and half-sister Helga (JT) Morby.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 23, 2026, from 12:30 PM - 1:30 PM at 200 Eagle Ridge Drive in North Salt Lake with a viewing prior to the service from 11:00AM - 12:30 PM. Interment will be at Memorial Mortuary and Cemetery in Bountiful.

A heartfelt thank you to all the friends, family, and caregivers that loved and supported Wally over the years. He will be deeply missed.
