In Loving Memory of Wanda Pahl

Saint George, Utah-Wanda passed peacefully away on December 22, 2024. She was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, on June 17, 1937, to Leona Biddinger Freeman and Douglas Freeman. She grew up in Salt Lake City, where, at the young age of 17, she went on a blind date. Two months later, she married the love of her life, Alexander Leon Pahl.

Two years into their marriage, they welcomed their first child, followed by a new addition every year for six consecutive years. They thought their family was complete, but God had other plans, and three years later, their seventh and final child arrived.

Alex and Wanda would spend almost 69 years together until Alex passed away in 2023. They were an example to everyone of a happy, loving, and devoted couple.

Wanda was not only a dedicated wife but also a fiercely devoted mother. She never gave up on her children, even when they wandered. Beyond the years of raising her children she raised 3 grandsons who have a special bond with their grandma.

Wanda may have had the hardest job of all - raising all of us hooligans.

Every summer, Alex and Wanda would pack up their motorhome, motorcycles, and kids; eventually including grandchildren and head to Simpson Springs near Dugway, Utah. Wanda spent tireless days on these trips keeping everyone fed and having fun. In the spring, they'd drive down to Niland, California, to camp with her parents. Despite the hard work involved in these trips, Wanda never complained. She loved taking care of her family.

Wanda was always busy and had a spunky sense of humor. Her favorite word was "sh**," which her family recalls fondly, especially when she lost at Bingo. She bowled for many years, participating in leagues, and later competing in the Senior Games after moving to St. George, Utah, and Mesquite, Nevada. She even won several gold medals.

A talented quilter, Wanda made quilts for all her children and grandchildren, each adorned with a special patch that read, "Made with love by Wanda Pahl." She was also an exceptional cook, mastering her husband's favorite German dishes; red cabbage and rouladen; which she learned from her mother-in-law. Wanda prepared these meals for special occasions like Alex's birthday, Father's Day, and Thanksgiving. She went on teaching some of her grandchildren how to make these cherished dishes so they could be passed on for generations. Her kitchen was always filled with enough food to feed an army, and no one ever left her home hungry. Some of the best memories with her were spent sitting around her kitchen table, laughing, enjoying each other's company, and eating her wonderful meals.

Wanda is survived by her brother, Ronald Freeman; three children: James (Barbara) Pahl, Cyndi (Dan) Ronnow, and Carolyn (Hunter D) Fisher; 23 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Doug and Leona Freeman; siblings, Charles (Chick), Betty, and Marleen; her children: Douglas Herbert Pahl, Wanda Jean Pahl, Vickie Pahl Fox, and Suzanne Pahl, and her grandchildren: Dustin Thomas and Mickie Fox.

Wanda's life was a testament to love, devotion and hard work. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and all who were blessed to know her.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, June 7th, 2025 at the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
