Feb 28, 1926 Aug 3, 2024

Wilford Owen "Jake" Jacobsen, born in Aarhus, Hou, Denmark, to Anders Jacobsen and Anna Elise Maria Sorensen on Feb 28, 1926. Jake passed away August 3, 2024. In 1929, at the age of three, Jake's family moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, joining their father who had immigrated earlier to “The Land of Zion.” Jake graduated from West High School and proudly served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Adhara, a Liberty Supply Ship, in the Pacific theater during World War 2 from May 27, 1943, to May 7, 1946. One of the highlights of Jake's life was the U.S.S. Adhara Naval Reunions, where he joyfully reconnected with many of his shipmates.

Following his naval service, Jake met Barbara Joan Abbott on a blind date arranged by friends. They quickly fell in love and were married in 1954. Jake embarked on a successful career in the automotive industry, founding "Jake's Automotive Supply" in 1964. Known for his boundless enthusiasm for life, Jake was a fixture at local coffee shops, where he cherished the company of countless friends.

A devoted member of the LDS Church and a committed supporter of the Utah Boy Scouts, Jake generously offered his fleet of delivery trucks to transport children and camping gear to various scouting events. His love for the outdoors was evident in the annual hunting and fishing trips he enjoyed with his family.

Jake is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Barbara Joan Jacobsen; his children, William Jacobsen (Lucy) of New Mexico, Thomas Jacobsen (Melodie) of Sandy, UT, and Ann Jacobsen (Lea) of Millcreek, UT; his sister Vivian Stong (Virginia); and his cherished grandchildren: Richard, Christina (Christian), Monique (Adam), Christopher “CJ” (Sara), Michael (Kristen), and Barbara “Bobbie” Jacobsen. He is also survived by great-grandchildren Liam, Maya, Lily, and Axel. Jake was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his siblings Harold, Christel, Parley, Karen, and Florence, and three siblings who passed in infancy.

A viewing will be held on Friday, August 16th, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Larkin Sunset Lawn Mortuary, 2350 East 1300 South, Salt Lake City, Utah. Graveside services will take place on Saturday, August 17th, 10:00 am at Wasatch Lawn Cemetery, 3401 South Highland Drive, Millcreek, Utah.

Jake will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
