William "Bill" Joseph Harris

William Joseph Harris, Age 73, passed away at home in South Jordan, Utah, on January 4, 2026. Bill was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, to William Edison Harris and Wilhelmina “Minnie” Grobben Harris. Bill attended South High School where he graduated in 1970. After high school, he attended the University of Utah and remained a Utes fan all his life. Bill served an LDS mission in the Southern United States, particularly in Georgia and South Carolina. Bill married Marsha Clements and had two children – Rachel Leigh Harris Thompson and Joseph Mathew Harris. In 1992, he married Joan Ella Thompson. They remained married until his death.

Bill loved sports. He excelled at playing basketball and tennis, and even played semi-pro basketball for the off-season LA Rams. He had an awesome hook shot. Later in life, he took up golfing and loved playing with friends and family members. Bill was a natural salesman. He sold insurance, windows, cars, and ended his sales career working at Sam T. Evans Company.

Bill is survived by his wife, Joan, his children, Rachel Thompson (Andy) and Joseph Harris, and his granddaughter, Addison Carter. He is also survived by his siblings: John Grobben (Sue), Nancy Holt (Bill), and David Harris (Lisa). He is preceded in death by his parents and his younger brother, Jonathan. The family will be holding a private graveside service. Bill will be interred at Memorial Mountain View Cemetery in Cottonwood Heights, Utah.
