You Cheng Yu, age 67, passed away peacefully on July 18th, 2024, surrounded by his faithful and loving wife and his three daughters.
You was born July 18, 1957 in Guangdong China to Yu Sheqin and Zhu Xiaoyan. He was the eldest son among six siblings. In 1986 he married his wife Pui Kuen Fong and immigrated to the United States in 1987. They settled in Utah and created a life in Salt Lake City raising their three daughters.
You had a passion for cooking which he pursued both professionally as a Chef and at home, delighting his family and friends with delicious meals. Throughout You’s life, we could find him cheering on his favorite basketball team, the Utah Jazz, watching ‘The Price is Right’, playing card games-especially blackjack- and listening to Chinese opera.
In 1999, You was involved in a car accident that changed the course of his life and became wheelchair bound. Despite this challenge, You continued to be a devoted father and husband, embodying resilience and strength. The amount of trials and complications never diminished his spirits and he viewed it as just a hurdle to overcome.
Though he was unable to provide financially due to his disability, You enriched the lives of his family in countless other ways. He was a pillar of emotional support, offering guidance, love, and wisdom to his wife and daughters as well other close family members and friends, as they navigated life's challenges. His presence was a source of comfort and stability, and his positive outlook on life inspired all who knew him. He knew not to take life too seriously, and was often found making jokes with his kids, making silly faces with his grandchildren and even managed some light-hearted pranks on his nurses and aides. His great ability to make others smile and his sense of humor will be missed.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Pui; daughters Amy (Lloyd), Sally, and Helen. Brother Yong Cheng Yu (Chun Ning Lin), Sisters, Yan Yun Yu (Wei Lin Chen), Miao Yun Yu (Hao Xuan Mei), Wendy Chan (Ricong Chan), 4 grandchildren Genevieve, Cohen, Bennett and Dean. He is also remembered fondly by many nieces and nephews. You was preceded in death by his parents, his father and mother-in-law, and his eldest sister.
