Yury Stanislavovich Terebenin

Jul 26, 1948 Feb 10, 2025

With deep love and cherished memories, we honor the life of Yury Stanislavovich Terebenin, a devoted husband, father and Grandfather. Born on July 26, 1948, in Leningrad, Russia (now St. Petersburg), Yury was the beloved son of Maria Pechonkina and Stanislav Terebenin. He was a younger brother to Vladimir and a loving sibling to his late sister, Galina.

Yury is a man of many accomplishments. He spent his childhood on the rugged and beautiful Sakhalin Island in the Pacific Ocean, north of Japan. He held those early years close to his heart, often speaking fondly of the island’s wild landscapes and the adventures of his youth. Later, his family returned to Leningrad, where Yury pursued a degree as a topographical engineer. His career took him across the vast landscapes of Russia on numerous expeditions, fueling his passion for exploration and discovery.

It was during these travels that he met the love of his life, Liudmila. The two were married on January 22, 1972, and together they built a life filled with love, resilience, and faith. Their greatest joy arrived with the birth of their daughter, Anya, who would remain the center of their world.

In the summer of 1989, during a visit to a dear friend in Budapest, Hungary, Yury and his family had a life-changing experience. They joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, becoming the first Russian converts to be baptized before returning home. In a time of newfound religious freedom, Yury opened his home as a gathering place for those seeking spiritual truth.

Yury’s devotion to his faith led to an important milestone. In September 1989, he received the Aaronic Priesthood—the first man in Russia to do so in over 70 years (Since the Russian Revolution of 1917). His dedication to the gospel and his willingness to serve helped establish and strengthen the Church in his homeland. When the Church was officially registered in Russia in September 1990, Yury became the first Branch President, a role he embraced with humility and steadfast commitment.

In January 2010, Yury and Liudmila immigrated to the United States, reuniting with their daughter Anya, their son-in-law Mark, and their two granddaughters, Masha and Natalie. In October of 2013, Yury and Liudmila were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. While in the United States, Yury rediscovered his love of traveling, enjoying new and exotic locations throughout the remainder of his life.

Yury passed away peacefully on February 10, 2025 at the age of 76, just a few weeks after celebrating his 53rd wedding anniversary.

Yury’s legacy is one of courage, devotion, and love. He will be dearly missed but forever remembered by his family, friends, and the countless individuals whose lives he affected.

May his memory be a blessing, and may we honor his life by carrying forward the light and love he so freely shared.
